Welcome to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the world’s largest cricket stadium, and host of many world-class sporting and musical events throughout the year. With tourists flocking to the MCG throughout the year, the Sheraton Melbourne is proud to both support our local teams, and help visiting fans with exceptional accommodation close to the MCG.

Whilst the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) came into existence in 1838, it wasn’t until 1853 that they moved into their spiritual home. In 1877 the MCG was expanded with the introduction of the first grandstand, ready to host the first ever test match against James Lillywhite’s English cricket team.
With so many great moments to choose from, it was a very difficult choice. However, our favourite greatest moment was the 1961 Cricket Calypso Revival. A day which brought a world record 90,800 spectators flocking to the MCG to witness the Australian captain Richie Benaud lead out his team against the cavalier West Indies team.
Sports on Offer
In addition to world-class cricket, the MCG also plays host to a plethora of other sports, including Australian Football League (AFL) footy matches, rugby union, rugby league, soccer, tennis and cycling.
Being one of the hotels located closest to the MCG, guests of the Sheraton Melbourne can easily make their way to the stadium within minutes, on foot or by tram. So go ahead, book your tickets to the most exciting matches of the season, and get close to the action.
